If ArtPrize has been on your “we should go” list, this is the week to turn that thought into a plan.
Art in the City, our City Games and My GR Week collaboration, gives your art walk a mission. Visit work by participating artists, try the trivia challenges, and look for City Games QR placards at exhibits for on-site check-ins.
Grab a friend, choose a few stops, and follow your curiosity. There’s no prize for speed-walking past the art. There is a pretty good chance you’ll find a new favorite piece before ArtPrize wraps up on Saturday.
Set a course for DeVos Performance Hall 🖖
The Music of Star Trek · Friday and Saturday, October 2–3
The Grand Rapids Symphony is taking the music of Star Trek out of your speakers and onto the DeVos Performance Hall stage for two nights. Bring the friend who knows every ship designation. Bring the friend who just loves a big, cinematic concert. Both are welcome aboard.
Something strange is coming to Grand Rapids 👻
A few new characters are about to make themselves known around town. Ghosts on the Grand begins Friday, October 2, bringing fictional ghosts and their stories into City Games challenges for spooky season.
Consider this the knock at the door. We’ll introduce you properly in the weekend edition. Keep an eye on City Games.

Tuesday: WITCH + Ficus · September 29 at The Pyramid Scheme. Start your week with a live show instead of another night of scrolling. Show details.
Wednesday: Fulton Street Market · September 30, 8 a.m.–2 p.m. Get the good produce, find a snack, and call it a very successful midweek errand. Market details.
Thursday: Chris Higgins at Dr. Grins · October 1 at 8 p.m. Your weekend can start a day early if you say it with enough confidence. Higgins also performs Friday and Saturday. Show details and tickets.
Friday: First Friday Game Night · October 2, 6–9 p.m. Vander Mill opens up its production floor for a free night of games. Assemble your most competitive friends, or your least competitive ones if you’d like to remain friends. Event details.
Saturday: Downtown Grandville Fall Fest · October 3, 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Food trucks, live entertainment, a scarecrow contest, Critter Barn, and plenty of fall energy. Some activities are free; others require tickets. Plan your visit.
Saturday or Sunday: Fall Bonsai Show · October 3–4 at Meijer Gardens. See tiny trees with enormous personality, watch bonsai artists at work, and enjoy an autumn stroll while you’re there. Included with admission. Weekend details.
Sunday: Meet the mind behind the map · October 4, 1–3 p.m. Artist Jerry Gretzinger talks about his ever-growing map of an imaginary place at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. A fittingly curious finish to the week. Included with museum admission. Event details.
